Blocks to Build On, Book 1 $8.95 + shipping and handling
Blocks to Build On, Book 1, by Kim Voss, is a progressive, multi-sensory presentation for designing easily identifiable objects using standard pattern blocks by
• matching shape to shape • discriminating shapes to complete the object, and • tracing and coloring the dashed representation of the object
The materials are deliberately designed with no written instructions. A child capable of matching, and presented the materials with the manipulatives, should quickly know what to do.
Blocks to Build On is designed to allow children with varying abilities to work side by side while essentially doing the same activity. While one student may be working at a more complex level another child can be making an object by matching color to color using the Pattern Cards for Blocks to Build On.
This is a wonderful activity for teaching visual discrimination, a skill necessary for many other developmental milestones, as well as visual spacial analysis and math concepts. The materials are printed on high quality paper to avoid the distractable "bleed through" found in most workbooks.
